Holy Days

Holy Week 2010, March 28th - April 4th

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified; Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Sunday, March 28th

Palm Sunday/The Sunday of the Passion

Recalling the "Triumphal Entry" of Jesus into Jerusalem, hailed by crowds waving palms and branches. Services at 8, 10:30 a.m. Final Lenten "Simple Supper" at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Monday, March 29th

The Way of the the Cross / The Stations of the Cross

The congregation is led through a following of Jesus, from his condmenation to his tomb. Service at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, March 30th

Quiet Circle

A gathering in the Baptistry to share Holy Eucharist; the readings and prayers of Holy Tuesday will be recited, along with substantial amount of stillness and silence around the table. Service at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, March 31st

Tenebrae ("Shadows")

The midweek Eucharist is celebrated as usual, followed by a listening in semi-darkness to scripture’s penitential psalms, laments and offer prayers, as the candles around the church are extinguished. The service ends in silence ... Service begins at 7 p.m.

Thursday, April 1st

Maundy Thursday

A gathering to reclaim the intimacy of Jesus and his disciples in the upper room. The sanctuary is reset for the evening, so that we might hear more readily his "new commandment," to love one another. The congregation is then offered the opportunity to respond, to be loved and served, and to love and serve, by taking part in foot washing, and then break the bread of the Holy Eucharist. Service begins at 7 p.m.

Watch and Pray
When the Maundy Thursday service ends, the altar and sanctuary are stripped, the Sacrament is removed to an "Altar of Repose" in the baptistry, and the sanctuary is left dark and bare. Parishoners take turns through the night keeping "watch" around the Reserved Sacrament in prayer, until the first service of the following day, Good Friday. Follows end of Maundy Thursday service.

Friday, April 2nd

Good Friday

On Good Friday morning, the Liturgy of the Day is offered at 7 a.m., including another simple reading of the Passion, followed by prayers, the veneration of a plain wooden cross, confession, and communion from the Bread and Wine remaining from the night before. Liturgy of the Day at 7 a.m. At 12 p.m., and each half-hour until 3 p.m., brief meditations and prayers may be offered. The sanctuary will be open all day for individual prayer before the bare cross. At 7 p.m., people are welcomed in for silent prayer and shared meditations.

Saturday, April 3rd

Holy Saturday

The church gathers in All Saints "Garden of Resurrection," at the Columbarium, for prayers appropriate to "The Sabbath of the Lord." After the simple liturgy of the day, all are welcome to join in the re-adornment of the church for The Day of Resurrection. Gathering at 9:30 a.m.

The Day of Resurrection

(Easter Sunday, April 4th)

Our observance begins in darkness, the church gathering before sunrise.
In the darkness a fire is kindled, and carried into the church, from which the Paschal Candle is lit. Members of the congregation share the fire, each with his or her own candle (bring your own, or take one that will be provided you that morning.) The ancient victory song of praise. All who are gathered will renew our Baptismal faith and vows, then gather at the Table for Holy Eucharist. The First Eucharist of Easter breaks the Lenten Fast, and we move to the Parish Hall for another “break fast” together.

Sunrise Service at 6 a.m.

Additional Easter celebrations at 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m.

An Easter Egg hunt for All Saints' children will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service.
